I just got back from a New Year's ski trip to Mammoth Mountain, CA. My girlfriend's sister is in marketing for the mountain (though in "special events," so she was a little sketchy on the details of the below) and passed along this information:
Mammoth (an Intrawest property) has secured funding to expand the Mammoth Lakes airport to accommodate commercial jet traffic. American has agreed to fly some number of flights from its hubs at ORD and DFW, 55% of which will be either guaranteed or actually purchased by Mammoth for building packages. The improvements and air service are scheduled to be complete/begin as of December 2002. Today, the quickest way to get to Mammoth is to fly to RNO and drive three hours, or fly to one of the LA airports and drive about six. I think SMF is about 5.5 hours away.
Looking over this post, it really doesn't contain much information, and an internet search hasn't gotten me much of anywhere. Does anyone have any additional details on this?
BTW, the snow sucked.

The locals advise that late Jan or early Feb there will be almost too much snow. In fact there is snow in the forecast for next week.
