5,000 miles typical compensation for a 2 hour mechanical delay?

Our LAX-LIH flight on Easter Sunday was delayed for 2.5 hours due to a faulty weather transmitter that had to be replaced. The FA's distributed the blue "we're sorry" United customer service cards for us to fill out and drop in the mail. It asked us for all of the flight details - cabin, seat, flight #, etc.

It then gives you the choice of a "travel voucher" or "mileage credit" (or some words in close approximation). I selected mileage credit, and today I got it:

26-Apr-05 UNITED POLICY ADJUSTMENT 5,000

Is this amount of miles typical? I'm happy as a clam as I feel 5,000 miles was a nice gesture given the delay, but I'm curious if this amount varies depending on severity of the issue, time delayed, etc.

I'm also curious to know if I'd selected "travel voucher" what I would have received?
