Interesting (and pretty good) suggestion, IMHO.

Heck, the flight is so wide open that if it were me-- and I wasn't on extremely cheap tix-- and if I didn't have VIPs-- I might cancel the ticket (use it as a credit towards a future ticket) and get 2 90K awards instead. I do understand the OP is not a position to do that, but personally I'd sooner do that than fork over the fare + 25K +$250 each way.
