That was the year of the double-double promo, in which each stay after your first (in the promo period) counted double for points credit and double for nights credit.

I checked into a Marriott property for a long-term stay in January, and didn't check out for over a year. Every night from my check-in until the end of March counted double.

Ms. JPT put me on notice after that assignment, and my travel is now way, way down. She put up with it for 6 1/2 years; now she wants me home more often. I don't do that homeless thing any more.

You will find, though, that if you're willing to commit to a long-term stay, many hotels will wiggle quite a bit on rates. In fact Marriott's extended-stay brands usually already have decreased rates for longer stays. I've found that the price breaks usually come at 7 and 14 nights, and sometimes there's another one around 21 or 30 days. You might find it worth looking into.
