billycwhatup - if you thought the service was "as friendly as one could reasonably hope for in a Japanese hotel" then you must not have stayed at many other places. During my trip I stayed at the Westin Tokyo and the Park Hotel in Tokyo and both were at least 10 times better than the WMK (as far as cleanliness, service, etc.). While your rate and upgrade probably made your experience better (my rate was over $250 with the SPG50 discount for a club room), I am still surprised that you found the overall cleanliness of the hotel acceptable. I've never seen so many stained carpets, mildew and mold stains on the building and outdoor furniture, tattered furniture in the lounges and restaurants, etc.
