When I tried booking the stopover in London, I filled out the dates:
YYZ-CDG - Oct 10, 2005
CDG - london - Oct 20, 2005
London - YYZ - Oct 22, 2005

AC could not find me any flights for the CDG LOndon portion. Thats probably because there is no AC flight for that route. and it didn't search BMI.

Is there a way to include star alliance partners in my search for the stopover?
