Kitty Hawk - I'm not going to disagree that mistakes were made and some things that happened should not have and some that should have happened did not, but if you've been humping these airlines as long as some of us have, it all goes under the heading of "s**t happens," and getting all steamed up about it is useless. To paraphrase snake, you can take your business elsewhere if you don't like how you were treated this time (and if you fly them enough, the same kind of s**t will happen on the new carrier so you can then go try another, and another, etc.).
For this guy to get all worked up about things happening to him on a leisure type "mileage run" (especially when he has chosen to be a volunteer and has deliberately thrown his whole itinerary out of whack) does not elicit a lot of sympathy from me because that is almost begging to get yourself involved in problems.
