I agree with snake. To my way of thinking, very little sympathy should be extended to B747-437B. His outrage at being reticketed in coach when he had already been upgraded on the flight he voluntarily gave up is extremely misplaced. I have never actually volunteered to be bumped but all of us know that once you have missed an upgraded flight, upgrading is catch-as-catch-can on the replacement. That is true even if you have paid full fare, no less volunteering for cash on some convoluted "mileage run" Q or T fare ticket.
It also appears that all of the CO agents but one were trying to help him as much as they could. Errors were made, and there was some less than completely competent service, and I agree that there is really no excuse for the counter agent at 430AM taking a look at the ticket and deciding that this was a jerk taking a weird kind of trip and was entitled to nothing if he could help it.
All of the rest of his complaint was to me representative of the vagaries of travel. All I could think of while reading this post was that this guy, with his "mileage runs" that help him achieve status and his inflated idea of what he is entitled to, might some day beat me out of an upfront seat.
