Saw a decent exhibition last week on airline design and architecture, in the somewhat unlikely (yet delightful) surroundings of the Gent Design Museum here in Belgium. There's also a decent (if pricey) catalogue for those who want something to prop up the coffee table.
I mention because there were a few examples of Pucci uniforms on show (along with the BD uniform from the early 1990's - lots of grey and red diamonds - I had to turn away before I got too dizzy!). The old BCal uniform was also on display.
There were also several old airline publicity films and commercials being shown, including an old IAD publicity video extolling the virtues of mobile lounges (hilarious for anyone who has encountered them in the flesh) and some spectacularly un-PC adverts from the sixties and seventies (one that sticks in the mind involved Lufthansa plugging HAM as a business destination by showing a number of European, US and Asian businessmen enjoying themselves on the Reeperbahn, ending with the tagline that "Nobody knows Germany better").
The exhibition itself originated in Germany (Vitra Design Museum), is in Belgium until June, and is then on tour to Zurich, Vienna and Barcelona over the next 12 months. A list of dates, and more info on the exhibition, can be found at:
