I agree with you; I probably overstated the case.

In my view, better to expect nothing than to expect everything.

Nothing wrong with asking, and if you're polite, and get the right agent, then maybe you'll get a free room on a missed connection. That said, I've seen non-elites be told "Uh-uhh - no room for you" while elites are handed vouchers for free rooms.

If the OP is elite, so much the better.

But as you said, it ain't required.
