Plus, the upgrades that get transferred are likely to be used, meaning that the PLT/GLD recipients will buy MORE upgrades at $25 each afterwards in order to keep upgrading.

All in all, it's:
1) An incentive to keep people upgrading.
2) Pure revenue for AA!
