I certainly respect and learn a lot from the experiences and opinions of the other FT-ers, and one really important thing I have learned is to really respect the opinions of those flyers doing mega-flights/yr over those doing micro-flights/yr especially on a single routing.

I fly the East Coast-HNL route approx 8-10 RT/yr and have been doing such for 9 years, the last 5 years on CO (previously I was on the really old shamefully creaky-n-filthy DL L-1011's). Almost of my RT fares have been in the $600-$900 range usually outta DCA, PHL, ABE or BWI to EWR (the price will definitely vary) and most are during the winter season on Tu, We or Th. My lowest RT fare was $210 and the highest was about $1080. I received ff mileage for all flights (and actually triple mileage for the $210 RT).

Doing the math regarding CO, thatsa about 40-50 RT and I have flown in B/F every time on mileage upgrades (it was 40K mi RT and now 35K mi RT) except one RT......and that was on a www.cheaptickets.com ticket that specifically said "non-upgradeable" and was priced about $120 less than the price of a regular ticket. The CO agents refused to budge. Big deal......I knew thatsa the rules so why ......

The CO DC-10's are old, but they have been nicely re-furb and most have the expanded luggage racks and the extra middle racks added on the B/F center-line. Occasionally a seat wont operate properly (or other problems) but IMHO these the best upgraded and maintained DC-10's in the air today. As for upgrade timing, itsa been 3 mo in advance to upgrades at the gate. I always carry a cert or two. Once I redeposited 2 expired certs for $35 each when they. Again no big deal, and it was nicely worth it.
