The problem with picking a DAP is deciding which features you really need and which features you can do without.

I am very partial to flash players(I own an iaudio G3) as I don't like moving parts and it is inevitable that hard drives will fail. if I were to purchase a HD based player it would probably be the cowon/iaudio X5 or the Rio Karma which has excellent sound. I don't use Itunes and I have my music encoded in OGG, MP3 and WMA formats so i would not buy an Ipod. Ipods and Itunes are way too restrictive although you can get around the restrictions with a little effort.
