(The other option for the hot service on QF provides for brekkie on such services is normally omellete, with sides like potato, spinach, mushroom, etc).

GENERALLY (Western) vegi QF meals on international flights are pretty good, a hell of a lot better than some others, certainly... that is if they remember to bring them aboard !
I often found when I used to order VLMLs on QF that even when the regular Y meal happened to include a vegetarian option, usually the VLML was something completely different. For example, pasta as one of the two Y options for other passengers, but couscous with vegetables for the VLML/VGML. Also, usually the VGML is used for the other types of less-strict vegetarian meals (VLML, for example, is usually just the VGML with a different label).

I doubt you will get couscous for breakfast, though. I hope they have stopped serving that. It was not once a good thing to eat when I had it.

One curious thing about QF's special meal service is that they print the catering instructions for you and tape it to the plate. Presumably this is so you can check what the ingredients are if you have dietary issues. However, it always amused me to get the plating instructions as well ('take salad, put in plate'; 'cut large cake into 144 pieces, plate individually',...). Do they still do this? (I haven't ordered a QF vegetarian meal for about three years.)

I have also ordered vegetarian meals on UA and NZ and I think NZ is about as good as QF and UA is worse, but this is based only on a dim memory and nothing specific.
