Why doesn't NW focus on international hubs instead of direct service?
Just a question that keeps coming to mind, Why doesn't NW focus on international hubs instead of direct service?
The Asian flights hub into NRT, a very busy, overcrowded airport in which slots are scarce and limit NW's growth. For example, NW has cut long-standing service to TPE and others from NRT in lieu of service to China.
Also KIX and Nagoya however, have very limited flights and connections but plenty of space and capacity from what I can tell.
They NW flights to India hub via AMS, which is a great airport and increases operations to AMS which is great but now CO is doing NYC-India direct.
Why not so either more hubs out of KIX or Nagoya OR do what the competition, UA CO DL and others and offer direct service to international destinations?
I can see that international hubs allow NW to pick up more passengers along the way, but then as an American traveler, I'd rather have direct service, especially since it seems that NW is also more expensive, at least when I'm searching for fares.
THoughts?
