I seem to remember reading an article in the paper a number of months back talking about how UA had always flown their airbii at the cruise speed of the 727's they replaced. Eventually they realized that the airbii should be operated a little slower than the 727 for optimum fuel burn - and implemented the change back when they were still aglow of their #1 on-time campaign.
