There is no such thing as bad sailing! We chartered an Island Packet 38 out of Red Hook and did Hawksnest in St. John, Jost Van Dyke, The Bitter End, Anegeda, Gorda Sound, Marina Key and Caneel Bay in St. John.
We were there Feb 28- Mar 7/05, and everyday we had great weather, temps in the 28C/24C and winds from 0-25knots. The IP is a very comfortable boat, but at 14 tons, it takes a fair amount of wind to get it moving. As is often the case our best sail was on our last day when we were on a 7.5 knot dead run across Pilsbury Sound. Our excitement for the week was running out of fuel in the middle of the Drake Passage, with very little wind. It turns out that the charter company sent us out with nearly empty tanks because the fuel vent was blocked and the fueller thought it was full.
I highly recommend a bareboat charter as a relaxing way to spend a week.
