The latest from Amtrak:

Updated: April 15, 2005 11:00 am EDT

WASHINGTON - To accommodate passengers who have been affected by the cancellation of Acela Express service, Amtrak will operate the following trains today, in addition to the normal non-Acela schedule:

2166 - 4:00 p.m. from New York to Boston
2174 - 8:00 p.m. from New York to Boston
2171 - 3:20 p.m. from Boston to Washington
2173 - 4:20 p.m. from Boston to Washington
These trains will operate with regular Regional Service train equipment.

Passengers with reservations on Acela Express will be accommodated on other Amtrak service. If passengers wish to cancel their reservations, full refunds will be offered. Passengers who are accommodated on other Amtrak service will be refunded the difference of the two ticket prices. Passengers who board an Amtrak train holding an Acela ticket will need to keep their receipts in order to later receive their refund.

The cancellation of Acela Express service for Friday and Saturday is a precautionary measure to deal with a mechanical brake problem discovered during routine inspections.

No brake failures or other safety problems have occurred during operation of these trains.

Acela Express train service will resume when the brake problem is resolved.
