Question Amex International Currency Card- Expats, your thoughts?

As part of my process of declaring myself a non resident of Canada (to which I'm a citizien), I need to cancel all my credit cards.

Im currently living and working in Tokyo. I do not have a Japanese credit card yet as its really hard as a foreigner to apply for one (ive tried several times).

anyways I see that AMEX has an international card. Has anyone here used it, and what are your thoughts on it?

Since its based out of the UK, how do they do a credit check in order to apply for it if my only source of credit history is in Canada?

I was thinking of getting HSBC offshore bank account and their HSBC branded amex international card.

If I do subscribe to the card, what should I get, US dollars or Euro's? Im paid in Yen.

Any comments welcomed.
