Elite Handbook (I have had recent cause to peruse it) says:
Elite confirmed, space-available and companion upgrades are valid on flights...within or between the 48 contiguous U.S., Alaska, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America and on select flights within or between the Mid Pacific and Asia.
Except BizFirst flights, of course.
