I haven't been for a few years, but Bologna is one of my very favourite Italian cities. It is close to the airport and has much of the appeal of Florence without 8 billion American Tourists and those awful tatty shops on the bridge.

Add to that the fact that Emiglia Romana is considered the food capital of Italy, and you are going to have a great day - a morning stroll and a great lunch.
