(I wonder if this was prompted by anything on FT...?!)

If you are a silver or gold diamond club member, your membership year is calculated from the date your membership starts. You have twelve months from this date to re-earn or upgrade your membership status. For example if your silver card is issued on 01 June 2004, your earning period is 01 June 2004 to 01 June 2005.

To allow time for any missing miles and partner flights to be credited to your account, we calculate your membership status a month after your actual expiry date. Therefore if your membership period is until 01 June 2005, your status will automatically be reviewed on 01 July 2005. The miles earned during your membership year will then be calculated, and then your membership status adjusted as appropriate.

To ensure you have a valid membership card while the above process is carried out, your existing card has a slightly longer expiry date*. So in the example above this would be 31 July 2005.

Any membership status miles you have earned from your new membership year (in the example above from 01 June 2005) will show on your account for your new membership year.

*this will be at the end of the following month or two months later if your issue date is after 16 of the month
