Why is this so terrible for UA? The miles being pooled by multiple parties aren't being used twice...they are simply being used period.
Based on what you're saying, UA would prefer for there to be millions of "Orphaned" miles out there that will NEVER be redeemed, thus saving them money in the long run. This goes back to my argument that we are nothing more than Revenue to them...

When you want an award, rather than flying (or spending) to increase your mileage balance, you would simply gang up with a bunch of people with minimal mileage balances to accumulate enough miles for the award.
