I'd fly from NY as flights tend to be cheaper than from WAS.

Who on earth told you that? As far as I'm aware our weather forecasters from the Met Office are yet to forecast next week's events! The British weather in summer is highly unpredictable. Yes, we do get scorching days, 38c was the highest on August 10th 2003 if I remember correctly. But that was a mini heatwave lasting only a few days! As for nights, we get the odd humid one but temperatures tend to be quite comfortable indeed.

The last long hot summer was in 1976, and I wasn't even alive then! And last summer was a complete washout! Gosh, who ever told you that were in for another one clearly must be a shrink.
