thanks, this is turning out to quite a balls of a trip:

company policy states that I have to fly AA on this route,
from LGW, meaning I have to trek all the way south even though I live on the picadilly line
no BA Miles and a bunch of orphaned AA miles,
300 miles short for the AA plat challenge (9700 miles incl business class bonus) so no point doing that
and no chance of earning the 3k DC miles I usually pick up with a Hilton stay
