Some also offer excellent (and reasonable) accomodation in London for those of us living outside the capital.
So in effect they would classify as posher Uni Halls of Residence and their basement bars?
Of course, during those days it seemed more important for many blokes not to get a social stigma even if nursing their pints in early afternoon...
