Thanks guys for all of your input. You helped me make up my mind about the rental insurance. For the record, I've decided to skip purchasing the insurance for the following reasons:

1) I'm too good a driver and according to the statistics, I'm NOT going to get into an accident. Plain and simple.

2) I've already been in a Mexican prison and it's not as bad as you think, so I'm not worried about that.

3) The insurance companies and AVIS do NOT need any more of my money.

4) It'll make the trip that much more adventerous and exciting.

5) I plan on doing most of my driving at night.
