Technically the upgrade window opens at midnight the day before so depending on when your flight is you can get the upgrade more than 24 hours before. For example, I'm usually working or doing email at that time on Wednesday nights and do my upgrade for my Friday afternoon/evening flight right then.

I've not seen the option to change to 'C' class online with a pass. How are you doing this? Or are you having AC do it over the phone (or at chk-in)?
