What happens to passengers who are caught smoking?

Yesterday my husband and I flew home from San Juan. A passenger a few rows in front of us was drinking to excess. He stumbled back to the restroom several times during the flight and smelled strongly of smoke as he passed our row when he returned to his seat. Later in the flight he became very roudy and had to be subdued by severals FAs.

As we deplaned we noted that he was being detained by several airline personnel, pointing fingers and accusing him of smoking during the flight. We overheard the FAs say that there are smoke detectors in the bathrooms and they had proof that he had been smoking. As we passed, he was denying the charges.

What happens if he's found guilty of smoking?
