. T-Mobile's customer retention department has allot of flexibility to offer you freebies.
Even better - their policy is that you can have an upgrade every 11 months (with a one year renwal) with any offer currently available to new customers. There are usually some good "free" or low-cost offers. They will add back the activation fee to match what a new customer would pay.
I did this in December after breaking my old phone. They had a free Samsung 315 on the web site noted as "web only". When I called they said the upgrade policy didn't apply to that phone, I said, "perhaps I should see what Cingular is offering." I was placed on hold for about 1 min & got the phone. FWIW, the phone was awful - couldn't understand what anyone was saying. T-Mobile swapped it 3 times and then let me pick another phone (with similar discount). Ended up with a V600, and they didn't want the 315 back.
