American Airlines Announces New Hawaii Service!
American will start a new level of Hawaii service the summer from their long haul Dallas and Chicago hubs. Appropriate DFW and ORD departure gates will feature Hawaiian themed items (posters, artificial palm trees, Hawaiian music, etc.) to encapture the spirit of passengers heading to the islands. Flight attendants and select gate agents will wear Hawaiian patterned shirts/blouses and lais. A complimentary Mai Tais will be available to all (adult) passengers on board.
First class passengers will be treated to all-new seats that offer an additional 6" of legroom over the current layout. Personal monitors, all new entertainment features and complimentary onboard Internet access will be available in the forward cabin. Oversized pillows and high quality blankets will replace the lifeless and lackluster pillows and blankets available today. The meal and beverage services will be greatly enhanced to provide a truly speciAAl first class experience. Printed menus, upscale tourism literature packs, writing tablets and even playing cards will be available in the forward cabin.
Coach passengers will have their own personal monitors to view a variety of enhanced entertainment programming. Internet access in the coach cabin will be available for a nominal fee. The meal and beverage services in coach are being revamped as well and will feature three choices of delicious entrees, light desserts and a range of complimentary (non-alcoholic) beverages--accept for the one free mai-tai just after takeoff.
Flight attendants serving the long haul Hawaiian Island flights will go through a special one day training program that includes a "Put yourself in the Customer's Mind" session. American is dedicated to revamping its quality Hawaiian flights. Pax will be offered a survey shortly before landing. (F class pax can take the survey online from their seats at any time.) Feedback from passengers will be carefully reviewed to ensure that crew are providing the highest quality service.
By now you have surely determined that this story is just wishful thinking. In reality, though, it wouldn't really take that much to make it true. I believe pax would be willing to pay a little more for the service and the positive feedback this type of change would bring, would be great for a legacy carrier like AA. Hoping something like this might happen...
