I spent my 60th night of the year at Essex House on Wednesday. Disappointed in my treatment as well. No upgrade and a room with a view of the offices acorss the alley on the third floor. They said they were too full though the person checking in next to me was told they could upgrade to a suite in the St Regis Club for $100. I found that very interesting it is like creative corprate accounting that use multible sub corporations under an umbrella. It is one building but they get out of giving the Platinum upgrade by being two seperate hotels. This seems no different than if Sherraton created a "seperate" hotel for it club floors.
I will stick to the Westin Times Square or Sherraton Manhattan in the future.
