It has happened to me where a hotel has not had a non-smoking room left and I had to use a smoking room for the night and I am PLT where room preference is supposed to be guaranteed.

Both times they called housekeeping and requested that the room be "hurricaned". Essentially it is a little green machine that mists the air and carpets with some sort of chemical that seems to greatly reduce the presence of Cigarette smoke. It worked for me and allowed me to spend the night at the hotel without being very bothered by the smoke.
