I had this happen at a courtyard in CAE once and wound up calling Marriott from the front desk to demand a non-smoking room due to my asthma.

I think Marriott handled it at that point as a sort of ADA type issue and after answering a few questions on the phone I was allowed to get my non-smoking room. Some poor schumck got bumped after me into a smoking room I am sure.
