CO has now installed kiosks that do handle international passengers at some airports. I've used them in IAH (the new terminal E has them, and they had them a couple of months ago at terminal C, before E opened). I've also used them at FLL a couple of weeks ago, and MEX has them. Just make sure that you have a machine-readable passport.

I would suppose also EWR has them by now.
