Pretty well describes the airline industry in general right now.
But so what if the airport loses money--the flights that are there are a major asset to the Denver area. Good transportation is a requirement for economic growth, and all transportation is subsidized in some way.
UA was squatting on gates in A concourse, but now that they have expanded TED operations, that is no longer the case. DIA runways have the capacity to handle many more flights, but the present terminals are fully utilized. Any major expansion at DIA will require new terminal construction. So, I do not see why DIA would want to cut it's prices to attract any other carriers such as CO. And CO would not have any feed for Mexico flights at DEN, while they presently have plenty of feed at IAH. No, I just don't see any CO expansion at DEN, except for maybe more flights to IAH.
