Last night I came across a description of Heathrow in the 1970's. It brought back memories of the days when Heathrow last had 3 operating runways - Runway 23/05 being the diagonal crossover since turned into a taxiway.

I recall being a plane-mad teenager asking the crew to visit the flight deck on a brand new BA 757 en route from MUC to LHR. It was about 20 minutes before touchdown, and the captain asked if I wanted to sit in the jump seat for landing - on Runway 23!

Anyone know the date that this old relic was officially last operational?
