I'm assuming you mean the 40 gig B+W iPod vs the 60 gig Photo. They have different docking stations so the 40 gig dock may not work correctly since there is a difference in thickness. Also, the correct iPod Photo dock has outputs for video as well as audio and the dock cable.

By "Power Plugs" I assume you mean the cords that attach it to the power adaptor / computer. The new photo iPods do not come with a Firewire cable anymore, but you can still use your old firewire dock cable to charge / sync it. They removed the Firewire cable since most Windows computers don't come with a Firewire port.. They had to change the power adaptor since they decided to remove the firewire cable. I believe it was a pure cost cutting measure because iPods are known to have issues with connecting over USB vs Firewire.

We've never had any trouble with our iPod upgrades on the Mac.
