I know others have done this before (and I'm doing this now): I think the two *wood properties in Cape Town complement each other brilliantly -- suites at both are VERY luxurious (though perhaps not on par with some of the European St. Regises) and ideally situated for a fantastic vacation of golf, wine-tasting excursions, spas, beaches, and hiking. All of these activities can be done at the highest calibre--the courses, vinyards, spas, beaches and mountains are not to be believed (N. California's beaches and mountains don't come close)! Friends love Cape Town as a cultural destination, but it doesn't do that much for me (mediocre museums), so if "high" culture is your thing, this may not be the best bet, but if those other activities sound good, this region in May or October (for whalewatching) may work for you.
