I would say that it's perhaps not three times better, but it is much, much better... Plus, the upgrade on the fare you are referring to is not guaranteed, A fairer comparison would be the BA fares referred to below that can be upgraded with points. In that case, you might be paying almost the same price. I haven't seen AC business class fares for as low as $3k, but maybe I'm missing something.
