I think those points are well made. Perhaps it's how quiet the whole place is that makes the difference - almost that one should be underwhelmed by the experience!

I did see the bar in the smoking room and can see how that would win points for smokers too.

I was just expecting something more akin to the very best hotel club lounges i've been in & that award still in my book goes to the Pan Pac in Singapore....
