I've shipped a flat-panel monitor as ordinary luggage in the box it came in twice, with plenty of Fragile tags stuck on and disclaimers signed, and it came through fine. I also carried my XPC-sized computer as hand luggage without any complaints. Then again, this was SIN-BKK and back on SQ and TG, not two intercontinental flights to Moscow, so your mileage may vary...
