I am looking for your help in figuring out the most safest way to ship a monitor as part of the luggage.

I am flying SFO-FRA-SVO on UA/LH, and have this really cool and expensive ($900) flat panel monitor that I need to take for a friend. The monitor is in the original packaging, and given the size I doubt they will let me bring it on board.

What is the best way to ship it as a luggage? I am really afraid of it a) being stolen in SVO; b) damaged.
