Bob Six was a helluva airline executive from the hellraising Juan Trippe/Eddie Rickenbacker/Harding Lawrence/C.R. Smith days, back when the whole industry was run by a tiny club of Scotch-drinking white guys with buzz haircuts and thin neckties. It was Six who purchased part of an airline called Varney Speed Lines in 1937, changed its name to Continental, and built it into one of the country's top ten airlines.
Six had a pretty good feel for showbiz/marketing (see Hollywood connections, above) and it was under Six that Continental advertised "the proud bird with the golden tail." This being the swingin', pre-PC Sixties, he also had cute flight attendants in ads saying, "we really move our tail for you." He gave the airline its rep for service and style, lost of course in the '80s when Frank Lorenzo took over the shop and almost ran it out of business, and only lately regained.
