An update:
The Air Canada Flight 117, an A320 Airbus, was on a scheduled flight from Toronto to Calgary. In the vicinity of Winnipeg, the captain's windshield began to crack accompanied by electrical sparking. The crew shut down electrical power to the windshield. They declared an emergency and diverted to Winnipeg where the aircraft landed safely. Company maintenance personnel replaced the windshield and the window heat controller and returned the aircraft to service.
