UA Retires Last B767-200 To Mojave Desert

Earlier this week, the last aircraft in UA's Boeing 767-200 fleet landed in Victorville, Calif., to retire to the Mojave Desert.

With UA's B767-200s coming up on costly heavy maintenance visits and as part of United's fleet reduction plan, the company began retiring this
fleet type in January 2003.

Boeing produced 19 B767-200s for UA, with the first aircraft delivered on Aug. 19, 1982. United took delivery of the last retired B767-200 on April
13, 1983. That aircraft logged 77,122 hours of flight time and 20,015 cycles. One cycle equals a take-off and landing.

"This aircraft provided customers with reliable and efficient service, including transcon and Extended Twin Operations flights (ETOPS), enabling over-water
flying to Hawaii and Europe," says Terry McNee, who coordinates aircraft retirements for UA. United was one of the few airlines that flew the B767-200 fleet equipped with the Pratt and Whitney JT9D-7R4 engine type.
