Worst as a Gold:
Checked into the Westin Horton Plaza in San Diego last week. Specifically requested the Preferred floor, as I do in all my reservations. Desk staff tells me there is no availability, and I am put into a regular room on a low floor. Get into the room, dirty desk and stains on the carpet. Call the front desk, ask for a new room, keys get sent up. Open the door to the new room, on, the SPG floor. Talk about a pain in the rear.
Best as a Gold:
Checked into the Westin Columbus last November, and got a decent SPG room with vaulted ceilings. However, a large party was in the hotel, and was very rowdy at 2-3am that day. Arrived from the airport about 1am. Told the staff at the front desk the next morning, and they apologized for it, and gave me new keys upon return that evening. Room is a corner suite, separate working room and desk, full dining table and three couches. Windows spanning both walls.
But, at this point in the year, I am only 4 stays away from Plat. Been on the road for a looooong time!
