Couple of comments:
1. Ever since there's such thing as Airshow, the highest ground speed I've observed is on a recent HKG-NRT trip on CX. [Same flight path as TPE-NRT.] 703mph/1,120km/h. Tailwind reached 149mph. That's east of Kyushu, not far from approaching the Tokyo area. It's a pretty dynamic area in terms of air current.
2. I have no sympathy for those who get injured, I'm sorry. If you fly in Asia often enough, you'll hear many many people unbuckle their seatbelts the second the pilot turns off the light. Nobody seem to care that the pilot also suggests people leave the belt on anytime they're seated. When the passengers don't care about their own safety, they're putting themselves at risk.
Unfortunately, it takes many accidents and incidents like this for people to learn. Same thing for the jetfoil between Hong Kong and Macau. For 20 years after the service has started, nobody care to fasten their seatbelts even though they announce it before every sailing. It's only after a few accidents when people actually get hurt before they realize the belt is there for their safety.
And even after a double decker bus flew off a bridge and killed 20 in Hong Kong over a year ago, I've yet to see anybody sitting on the front row on the upper deck use the seatbelt provided.
