Hmmmm, what's with this turbulence around Japan? I flew on MH 3 weeks ago KUL-TPE-LAX and about an hour and a half out of TPE we hit some serious turbulence off the coast of Japan, enough that the crew had to suspend the dinner service for a bit and strap down in their crew seats. At least it was
after the caviar service. Anyway, I had to hold my champagne and water glasses with outstreched arms for about 15 minutes to keep them from tipping over.
I've noticed this turbulence on practically all my eastbound trans-pacific flights (ex-TPE/SEL/HKG/MNL) to the west coast of N. America (LAX/SFO/YVR) as well as HNL, and it always occurs when I have food in front of me.
