Wow, this thread got out of hand quickly. To answer the original question of any other advice re the TLV airport I'll add: Don't be shocked by how young the people doing the security checks are. And I say that as someone still on the sunny side of 40.

For the record, I'm Jewish and have experienced the treatment referenced above. A lot. At its most absurd, I once had a security checker, who I was speaking to in Hebrew, ask me several detailed questions about Yom Kippur. No joke.
